About me
I was raised in Vienna, born to an American mother and Austrian father, and have thus developed bilingually. I went to a bilingual primary school, a high school with english focus and now I am currently finishing by BA in psychology at Leiden University. During high school, I briefly looked after a girl of 7 years, and also offered english lessons to two different pupils alongside this endeavour. After high school, I did a social service year at a multi-cultural daycare center in the first district of Vienna, and learned how to work with kids from the ages of 6 to 12 -- both learning how to engage with their curious and playful minds, as well as teach discipline in an effective way. I helped them with their homework, played fantasy/board games with them, accompanied them on trips outside of the Hort, and entertained them with physical activities.
In my free-time I like to run, dance, write creatively, sing, paint, learn about ancient philosophies, surround myself with nature, cook and organise.
I believe there is something very special about the bond between a caretaker and the one being cared for, and I would love to again be a part of this kind of work. Studying psychology only furthers my understanding and incites new curiosity for human nature, and I love to work with people in creative ways. Some of the attributes I feel are called for in my future profession are also crucial when regarding caretaking-- guiding a certain situation, holding space for another, good listening skills and high empathy. I have a natural sense for detecting and identifying another needs, which comes in handy with this line of work. Recently I came upon the quote "Everyone you meet is a teacher", and I think it fits well here: we can all learn things from each other, and we all have stories. I would love to create, share, and listen to yours :)
